Northwestern Mutual, Bon-Ton Stores donate; Dryhootch benefits

  • Milwaukee-based Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co., through its foundation, has awarded six grants totaling $900,000 to support childhood cancer research. Each recipient will receive $150,000 over three years through the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation’s Young Investigator Program. They are: Dr. Nathan Schloemer, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin; David Debruyne, Ph.D, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute; Giedre Krenciute, Ph.D., Baylor College of Medicine; Sunhye Lee, Ph.D., Children’s Hospital Los Angeles; Emily Theisen, Ph.D., Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital; and Dr. Lena Winestone, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
  • The Bon-Ton Stores Inc., which has dual headquarters in Milwaukee and York, Pennsylvania, has raised $116,050 for STOMP Out Bullying, a national bullying and cyberbullying prevention organization for children and teens. The retailer raised the funds by selling blue limited edition Kind=Awesome shirts and $3 coupon donations.
  • Milwaukee-based nonprofit Dryhootch of America Inc. has received a $37,500 grant from Newman’s Own as part of the company’s Newman’s Own Award Ceremony at the Pentagon. Dryhootch was honored for its Peer Support Program, which offers veterans and their loved ones a group of peers with which to build relationships and support. The grant will help veterans cope with reintegration difficulties, such as Post Traumatic Stress, Moral Injury, addiction, homelessness, unemployment, legal and financial concerns and family issues.
