UWM to receive brownfield grant for Innovation Campus building

Learn more about:

The UWM Real Estate Foundation Inc. will receive a $205,850 Brownfield Program award from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) to assist in the environmental remediation at the site of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s new Innovation Campus in Wauwatosa.

The grant will reimburse UWM Real Estate Foundation for contamination soil management, environmental monitoring and infrastructure improvements.

The new 25,000-square-foot building, called the Institute for Industrial Innovation, is the first building being constructed on the University’s Innovation Campus. The building will serve as a business accelerator facility and provide leading edge laboratories for a variety of academic and industrial researchers.

UWM Real Estate Foundation and the City of Wauwatosa have worked closely for the past six years to develop plans for the Innovation Campus.

The Brownfield Program provides funding to assist local governments, businesses and individuals with assessing and remediating the environmental contamination of an abandoned, idle or underused industrial or commercial facility or site.
