UWM dean named Royal Institute of British Architects fellow

Bob Greenstreet, the dean of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s school of Architecture & Urban Planning, is one of 30 architects to be named a 2017 fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects.

It’s an honorary title meant to recognize architects in the United Kingdom and abroad who have made contributions to the field.

Greenstreet, a London-native who moved to the United States in 1980, has served as dean of the UWM School of Architecture & Urban Planning for the past 27 years. He is one of the longest-serving architecture deans in North America and, in 2013, received the Topaz Medallion for Excellence in Architectural Education from the American Institute of Architects and the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture.

While living in Milwaukee, Greenstreet has served on the board of directors of the Wisconsin Architectural Foundation and the Wisconsin Architectural Archives. He was also the chairperson of the Milwaukee City Plan Commission from 1993 to 2004 and has been a member of multiple city task forces. Greenstreet has been involved in selecting architects for multiple city building projects, including the Milwaukee Art Museum, Pier Wisconsin and the Milwaukee Public Market.

From 2004 to 2009, he served as director of planning and design for the city at the request of Mayor Tom Barrett.

The RIBA, formed in 1834, is a professional organization for architects that provides standards, training, support and recognition for members around the world.
