UWM College of Nursing and UnitedHealth Group launch partnership

The University of Wisconsin Milwaukee College of Nursing has announced a partnership with UnitedHealth Group for a new graduate program.

UWM welcomed the first group of post-master’s nurses this month into a dedicated Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate Cohort, with online classes beginning in January 2014.

“UW-Milwaukee College of Nursing is very pleased to be a partner with UnitedHealth Group in this innovative graduate program,” said Sally Lundeen, dean of the UWM College of Nursing. “Both organizations are committed to expanding the number of nurse practitioners available to support clients to gain the best and most appropriate level of care.”

“This program will educate family nurse practitioners prepared to address the rapidly evolving shifts in health care,” said Kim Litwack, interim associate dean of academic affairs for the College of Nursing. “It is critical to address the need for qualified primary care nurse providers and is an extension of the UWM College of Nursing’s commitment to further strengthen our collaborative partnerships with consumers, employers and insurers.”

The first cohort, consisting of 13 graduate nursing students from 11 different states, attended student orientation Dec. 4-6 on the UWM campus. The online educational program makes the preparation of FNPs from across the nation possible. The UWM College of Nursing expects to enroll two cohorts of up to 30 graduate nurses each per year.
