The Hive, a Milwaukee coworking space that opened in 2017, is planning to open a second downtown location in June.

The Hive coworking space at 720 N. Milwaukee St.

Developed by Michael Sampson, owner of Swarmm Marketing + Events, The Hive currently has a 5,000-square-foot space at 720 N. Milwaukee St. It has five dedicated members and 15 to 20 daily hot desk members, which are an eclectic mix of beauty studio, contemporary art gallery, media agency and nonprofit users. It also hosts events, including a podcast meetup and a “Milwaukee Does” series about successful entrepreneurs,

The 2,900-square-foot second location is at 770 N. Jefferson St., and Hive has a target occupancy date of June 3, according to Mo Crosby, general manager. The Jefferson Street location will be focused on dedicated office space, with seven private offices that each can hold two to five people.

“I’ve been turning people away with private offices, smaller short lease private offices,” Crosby said. “I get asked every week for renting out private offices for two to three people.”

Expanding Hive in its original space was not possible, Crosby said, because there is no space available in that building. One unnamed tenant is already lined up to rent two offices at the Jefferson Street location.

“They have a little bit different vibes. The Hive Milwaukee Street is a very laid back, relaxed community and the other one is going to be a little bit more your private offices, allow for a bit more privacy,” she said.
