The year 2010 has been documented as one of the most economically challenging periods in recent history, particularly for the light construction industry. That same year, Scott Kubicki, president of Skyline of Milwaukee, left his well-paying, salaried position to follow his entrepreneurial dreams and start his own company.
“My aspirations were to be on my own,” he said. “I never looked back.”
Kubicki has been an integral part of the roofing industry in Milwaukee for the past 15 years. His reputation and credibility in the industry are the biggest reasons for the company’s success, despite the troubling economic times, he said.
“We really value and rely on our relationships,” Kubicki said. “We looked at the down economy as an opportunity to get in on some of the business at a lower price point because we were new and small and didn’t have the overhead costs some larger firms might have.“
In five short years, the company has grown from one employee and a part time assistant to a new facility and 21 employees, which includes a full-time office and sales staff and the field employees.
His employees and the commitment to his clients are the key reasons for the company’s success, Kubicki said.
“I like to go above and beyond for my clients and my employees,” he said. “I sincerely care for the well-being of not just my business, but my clients’ business as well. We make sure people are taken care of.”
