Schlitz Park to host one-mile road race

Organizations:

A new athletic event this summer will mark Milwaukee’s first competitive, cash award, one-mile road race.

The Schlitz Park Miler Run/Walk will be held on Tuesday, June 26, at 5:30 p.m. at Schlitz Park, 1555 N. Rivercenter Drive in Milwaukee.
The Miler will be held in conjunction with the Schlitz Park Criterium, a one-day bicycle race on a circuit road course that is part of the 11-day Tour of America’s Dairyland Pro-Am cycling competition. Bike racing will be held from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with a break at 5:30 for the Miler.
Miler participants can run or walk the demanding Criterium course, which has hills and turns throughout the neighborhood. The top three runners in each category will be awarded $100, $60 or $40 in cash. Top men’s and women’s racers will also receive a $50 gift certificate to Performance Running Outfitters.
To register, visit www.active.com/running/milwaukee-wi/schlitz-park-miler-2012 through Sunday. Cost is $20, which includes t-shirt, PRO coupon and post-race refreshment. Proceeds of the race will go to DreamBikes Milwaukee, a non-profit that opens used bike stores to help teens in at-risk communities.
