SC Johnson increases ingredient transparency

Learn more about:

Racine-based SC Johnson has increased its transparency surrounding its product fragrances, and has now disclosed to consumers the ingredients of its Glade products on its “What’s Inside SC Johnson” website.

According to the company, the move makes it the first major consumer packaged goods company to do so.

A study completed on behalf of SC Johnson last month found that consumers are increasingly interested in what’s in the products they use, and would choose a more transparent company over a competitor that doesn’t provide product ingredient information.

Through WhatsInsideSCJohnson.com, launched in 2009, the company has increased the information available to consumers about its products and their ingredients. SC Johnson manufactures household cleaning, home storage, air care, pest control and shoe care products, including Kiwi, Off!, Pledge and Windex.

“We take great care in making ingredient choices to offer products that are both safe and effective,” said Fisk Johnson, chairman and chief executive officer of SC Johnson. “Earning consumer trust can only happen when companies are willing to lay it all out there. Expanded fragrance disclosure and ongoing transparency initiatives are vital to building consumer trust and credibility. That is why we continue to advocate for and promote transparency.”
