The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County closed its Christmas campaign at the end of January and reached its original goal by raising $2.7 million.
“Our goal could only have been met by generous donations from all the citizens of Milwaukee County,” said Major Robert Thomson, Salvation Army Divisional Commander for Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. “We are very grateful for the giving hearts of the Milwaukee community who have helped us reach our goal. While meeting a dollar goal is good, this represents our neighbors in need who are served.”
According to Thomason, 84 cents of every dollar donated to The Salvation Army supports critical year round programs and Christmas services provided to individuals and families in need. Donations received in 2010 will help The Salvation Army continue to provide 2011 year-round programs and services including Toy Shop, Christmas Family Feast, Prison Toy program, emergency housing and food, disaster services, after-school programs, aftercare for ex-offenders, budget & family counseling, character building programs, children’s education center, senior citizen activities, Coats for Kids and ‘Feed the Kids’ summer lunch program.
