Summerfest Foundation, Inc. has designated the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee the official charity partner of the Summerfest Rock ‘n Sole Run, set for Saturday, June 14, at 7 a.m. at Henry Maier Festival Park.

The annual run, which precedes Summerfest, features a 5K, quarter marathon and half marathon along the lakefront and through parts of downtown Milwaukee.

The run aligns with the Boys & Girls Clubs’ mission to help kids live healthy, active lifestyles, said Vincent Lyles, president and CEO of the nonprofit organization.

“We are honored and excited to be chosen as a beneficiary of the 2014 Summerfest Rock ‘n Sole Run,” Lyles said. “Every day we teach our members the importance of a healthy lifestyle through valuable lessons in sports and fitness activities. Getting involved in sports and fitness at a young age benefits our members, and we are grateful for the support that will help us continue this important work.”

The organization also provides academic help and character-building programs to its youth members as well as free meals and connections to role models.

At the race, which is in its fourth year, Boys & Girls Clubs representatives will serve as volunteers and entertain runners along the race route.

“Summerfest Foundation, Inc. is proud to partner with Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee and help share their mission with all Summerfest Rock ‘n Sole Run participants,” said Don Smiley, president and CEO of Milwaukee World Festival, Inc., which heads Summerfest. “The positive impact their organization has on the community compliments the Summerfest Foundation’s values and initiatives, and we are excited to partner with them this year.”
