“Rookie Smarts”

Liz Wiseman’s recently published book opens with the line “When is not knowing more valuable than knowing?”

The book, “Rookie Smarts: Why Learning Beats Knowing in the New Game of Work,” emphasizes the value of maintaining a rookie mindset no matter how experienced a professional may be.

Wiseman, president of a Silicon Valley-based leadership research and development center known as The Wiseman Group, cites four modes of the rookie mindset that spark career success: openness to new possibilities, a willingness to tap experts for help, a tendency to move fast through small and calculated steps, and a drive to push boundaries.

Wiseman writes, “When we are stretched to reach beyond our current capabilities, we can open ourselves up to learning from everyone and everything around us and tap into a different mindset – what I have come to call ‘rookie smarts.’”

“Rookie Smarts” is available on www.800ceoread.com for $16.99.
