Potawatomi Hotel & Casino on Monday kicked off the application call for its signature charity program, “Miracle on Canal Street.”
The program, which started in 1994, spreads funds among area organizations working to improve the lives of children and their families.
Last year’s “Miracle” push generated more than $1 million, most of which came from special rounds of bingo played at the casino from August through early December. In total, the charity program has distributed more than $14.6 million among hundreds of youth-focused organizations.
Thirty organizations received funds in 2014. While 10 of the beneficiary organizations were chosen by the program’s media partners, the other 20 organizations were selected randomly from the application pool in early November. All recipients were celebrated during a holiday-themed event in December, when Potawatomi officials announced the fundraising total.
To be considered for the 2015 program, organizations must have a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. They must also cater primarily to children younger than age 18 and be located in Milwaukee, Racine, Washington, Waukesha, Ozaukee, Dodge, Jefferson, Kenosha, Sheboygan or Walworth counties.
Interested organizations can apply for funding online at www.paysbig.com/miracle. Applications must be submitted by June 12.
