Playworks Wisconsin has named Deborah Lukovich as its new executive director.

The organization is part of a national nonprofit based in Oakland, Calif. that works to improve the health and wellbeing of children by increasing their opportunities for physical activity and safe, meaningful play. The Milwaukee chapter launched in 2012 and serves 6,800 elementary students at 14 Milwaukee Public Schools in disadvantaged communities.

“I am very excited Deb has joined the Playworks WI team,” said Derek Pleasants, Playworks Wisconsin board member. “Her leadership, optimism and experience in helping schools and nonprofits serve the needs of children will enable Playworks Wisconsin to grow and continue to leverage the power of play to transform children’s physical and emotional health.”

“We are excited at the national level to benefit by Deb’s Milwaukee roots, track record of community leadership, and experience in building community partnerships as we seek to bring our researched approach to more children in the Greater Milwaukee Area,” said Eunice Dunham, regional executive officer for Playworks.
