Pine Haven Christin Communities to transition leadership as CEO retires

Pine Haven Christian Communities, based in Sheboygan Falls, has announced the retirement of chief executive officer Roger Leys, effective in April, in line with the organization’s board-approved succession plan.

Leys has served the nonprofit senior living community since 2009, when he was hired for a 120-day stretch of financial consulting. Following that temporary role, he was appointed CEO.

“It has been rewarding to respond to God’s call these past six years,” Leys said in a statement. “Our work is truly all about God’s work , the spirit’s leading and lives restored by Christ. The joy for me has been working with board members and a leadership team who truly understand and live this to the best of their ability.”

In his place will step Ron Walvoort, chief operating officer of Pine Haven Christian Communities. Walvoort is scheduled to transition into his new position on April 10.

Walvoort moved from the role of chief financial officer to chief operating officer in May 2014, according to Karin Oliver-Kreft, the organization’s director of marketing and community research. With a $19 million expansion in north Sheboygan Falls, the organization created the COO role to better balance its priorities.

The organization’s expansion project, which Walvoort has largely guided, is slated to be completed in June. Walvoort’s responsibilities as COO will be divvied up among his leadership team and him, Oliver-Kreft said.

Leadership team members will retain their current positions, including Oliver-Kreft as director of marketing and community outreach, Marty Halverson as chief financial officer, Michele Oostdyk as administrator and director of clinical services, and Lori Albsmeier as director of human resources.

Pine Haven Christian Communities has three campuses, two in Sheboygan Falls and one in Oostburg.
