Positively Pewaukee is expressing concerns that Governor-elect Scott Walker’s plan to eliminate the Wisconsin Department of Commerce could have an adverse effect on the Wisconsin Main Street Program that has helped keep local downtown business districts afloat.
In an e-mail to its members, the Pewaukee group wrote: “Positively Pewaukee has been a part of the Wisconsin Main Street Program since its inception in 1996 and we feel that our program has helped in many ways to improve the quality of life in Pewaukee. We are now concerned that the program could be in jeopardy with the new administration. We have been told that Gov- Elect Walker will be eliminating the Dept of Commerce where the Wisconsin Main Street Program is housed, so we are not sure what the fate of our program is.”
The Pewaukee group has launched a letter-writing campaign to communicate with Walker’s transition team about the importance of the Wisconsin Main Street Program.
