Packers back college readiness event

College Readiness 21 will host its first annual UnSung Heroes Celebration on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at the Italian Community Center, 631 E. Chicago St., from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The event will honor supporters who consistently serve some of the state’s college-bound students.

"CR21 is critical to the success of these youth, because it motivates them and helps them believe they can tackle any challenge to achieve their goals and dreams," said Rob Davis former Green Bay Packer and the keynote speaker for the event. "It’s important that we provide a supportive environment so they can maximize opportunities."

Those being honored at the event will include: Sister Joel Read; Ken and Melinda Krei; Dorothy Valentine; George and Julie Mosher; Lynnea Katz-Petted and Paul Petted; Arleta Cobb; Great Lakes Higher Education; Guaranty Corp.; Cardinal Stritch University; and Melvin McElrath, a CR 21 graduate and Marquette University student.

The evening will begin with a silent auction and live entertainment, followed by an awards ceremony.  Following the ceremony, attendees will have the opportunity to meet and greet with current Green Bay Packers. The funds raised will support CR21’s goals, which include shaping the futures of under-served high school students who are low-income, minority and will be first generation college students. All of the proceeds will go toward CR21’s programming for high school students and program graduates for college scholarships. The suggested donation is $50 for individuals and $500 for table sponsors. Those interested in attending the event can register online at www.collegereadiness21.org  or contact Christy Miller at 414-273-5980 ext.12 or by email at cmiller@wficweb.org.
