Outpost Natural Foods Cooperative will open its new 16,700-square-foot Mequon store, located at the northeast corner of Mequon Road and Wauwatosa Road, with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday, May 12.

It will be the four store overall and first location outside of Milwaukee Conty for Outpost, which says it is the fourth largest natural foods co-op by sales in the United States.

The construction project cost $5.6 million and was funded by local investment and bank loans with some of Outpost’s owners providing over $500,000 dollars in preferred stock purchases.

Oconomowoc-based MSI General was the general contractor for the project.

“We couldn’t be more excited about the opportunities this location gives us to demonstrate the distinct values held by our co-op,” said Pam Mehnert, Outpost’s general manager. “Our 2022 goals of creating lively neighborhood markets, dynamic local food systems, strong community partnerships, sustainable solutions and amazing places to work are all captured by our Mequon location.”
