Summerfest names inaugural race
Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. recently announced the official routes and name of Summerfest Half Marathon and 10K run which will be held Sunday, July 10. The inaugural race will be called the Summerfest Rock n Sole Half Marathon and 10K Run.
According to Summerfest officials, each route will be USATF certified and will start and finish at Summerfest and contain a stretch over the Daniel Hoan Memorial Bridge.
The race will also be an official chip timed event. Exact race routes are available for viewing at www.rocknsolerun.com.
All runners will receive a finisher’s medal along with a commemorative inaugural year short-sleeve technical tee, a wristband for free entry into the Summerfest grounds valid anytime on race day and one additional Summerfest general admission ticket.
The top 20 male and female runners in each race will be eligible for more than $22,000 in cash prizes.
Cost to register is $60 for the half marathon and 45 for the 10K run. Interested runners can can register in advance at www.Rocknsolerun.com. Net proceeds from the Summerfest Rock ‘n Sole Half Marathon and 10K Run will equally benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Wisconsin, Inc. and Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. 

Nominate your company for statewide family business award
The eighth annual Wisconsin Family Business of the Year Award, co-sponsored by Madison and Milwaukee-based law firm DeWitt Ross & Stevens and Madison-based CPA firm Smith & Gesteland, is now accepting nominations from businesses throughout the state. More than 51 family-owned companies have been recognized for their contributions to their communities, their industries and the state economy.
One family business in each of the three categories of small, medium and large sized businesses will be selected for the award.
Last year’s winners include: Neenah-based Miron Construction; Gordy’s Lakefront Marine, Inc. of Fontana; and Home Lumber Company in Whitewater. Past Milwaukee-area companies include The Boelter Companies, Inc.; and the Glorioso Brothers Company among others.
Special awards will also be given to companies excelling in a particular area.
Self-nominations are encouraged, or nominations can be made on behalf of the company by consultants, vendors, clients, or friends.  An independent panel of judges will select the award recipients. The deadline for nominations is Thursday, April 1. Awards will be presented at a banquet to be held in Madison on May 5, 2011.

Coors Light to be official beer sponsor for Milwaukee IndyCar race
Chicago-based MillerCoors LLC and Beer Capitol Distributing announced today that they will join together to be a prominent sponsor of the Milwaukee 225 IndyCar event at the Milwaukee Mile in West Allis from June 18-19.
The deal makes Coors Light the official beer sponsor of the Milwaukee 225 IndyCar race.
In addition to signage and hospitality, the sponsorship also establishes Coors Light as the title sponsor of the race’s pole qualifying day.
“We have a long history of supporting great racing at the Milwaukee Mile and look forward to an exciting race this summer,” said Jim Wright, MillerCoors general manager-sales for Wisconsin.
Also, Chris McGrath, the Milwaukee 225’s promoter, indicated that a title sponsor for the race may be announced soon.
“When the drivers and teams of the IZOD IndyCar Series come to town this summer, fans will experience the excitement, danger and speed, while businesses can showcase their wares and show support for this once-a-year Wisconsin tradition,” he said.
