The Center for Veterans Issues will host an open house for its brand new Veteran Resource Center, 315 W. Court St., for veterans and their families, and the general public on Thursday, July 26 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The open house will bring awareness to the programs offered by the Center in support for veterans. The Veterans Resource Center combines all of Center for Veterans Issues’ non-residential programs into one site, which is centrally located in the city and easily accessible by public transit.
“Prior to relocating in April, our programs were scattered throughout the Milwaukee area, requiring our clients to travel to several different sites,” said Azael Brodhead, an operation Iraqi Freedom veteran and director of the Veteran Resource Center. “Now, we have a ‘rally point’ where veterans and their families can come together and overcome barriers to sustainability, enrichment and well-being. We want the open house to showcase our support services, employment training, education, housing assistance, claims/benefits counseling, peer-to-peer support, and case management.”
The Center assists veterans who either need or are at-risk of becoming homeless, homeless, unemployed, underemployed, have post-traumatic stress disorder, substance abuse history, mental health needs, family counseling, holistic treatment, social connectedness, education/training, legal assistance, and other support services.
The open house will feature an 11 a.m. ceremony.
Funding  from the Home Depot Foundation, the Greater Milwaukee Foundation and others contributed to the completion of the Center.
