O’Donnell Park parking structure reopens

The O’Donnell Park parking garage has reopened for public parking near Milwaukee’s lakefront, Milwaukee County officials announced.

The structure opened a little more than a year after 15-year-old Jared Kellner of Greenfield lost his life when a 13-ton decorative panel fell from the structure. The building has been closed while the remaining decorative panels were removed and other repairs were made.

“We need to thank the County workers in the Department of Transportation & Public Works, as well as the numerous contractors involved in this project, for completing these repairs safely, on time and under budget,” Supervisor Michael Mayo said. “I also thank the County Board for making sure these repairs were completed before busy events like Summerfest, the July 3rd fireworks, the Milwaukee Air & Water show, and other cultural events at the lakefront. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the Kellner family one year later. In light of the terrible tragedy that occurred a year ago, I understand that some of my colleagues may still have some concerns, but the bottom line is that this facility is safe for residents and visitors.”
