- Friday, Sept. 17 and Saturday, Sept. 18 Ryan Persitza of KKOM and Commercial Realty Advisors and Kenneth Wolfe of Raymond James Financial in coordination with www.workingbikes.org will host a three day bike drive to benefit and provide bicycles to charity organizations in the Gulf Coast, Ghana, Tanzania, Angola, Cuba, Guatemala, Haiti, and Peru. Those interested can drop off a used or unwanted bite at the Petit National Ice Center from 4 to 7 p.m. or at the Urban Ecology Center on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Working Bikes ships donated bicycles to countries where they can be used as a primary means of transportation. The organization also provides detailed plans on how to convert bicycles in to machines used for pumping water, generating electricity for ultra violet water purification or for attaching grinders for food and farming.
- Friday, Sept. 24 My Good Mourning Place, a non-profit bereavement center for children, teens, and families, will host its 6th Annual “Close to the Heart” Fall Gala at the Italian Community Center, 611. E. Chicago St., beginning at 6 p.m. The event will include cocktails, music by pianist Elena Abend and clarinetist Orlando Pimental, a silent auction and raffle prizes. Dinner begins at 7 p.m. which will include a program highlighting the organization’s accomplishments over the year. Tickets are $60 per person and can be purchased online at www.mygoodmourningplace.org or by phone at 414-719-5385.
- Friday, Oct. 15 March of Dimes Drive for Babies will be held at Road America- Elkhart Lake. The all day driving experience will allow participants to take their own vehicle out on the track to raise needed funds for the March of Dimes organization. March of Dimes Drive for Babies. - Thursday, Oct. 21, The Helen Bader Institute for Nonprofit Management at UW-Milwaukee, in partnership with the Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee, will host a forum at the center from 8:30 to 11 a.m. The Forum is designed to challenge participants to learn and discuss common practices in volunteer management and recruitment, the advantages of adopting more strategic approaches during challenging times. Jeffrey Brudney, volunteer management scholar and the Albert A. Levin chair of Urban Studies and Public Service at the Maxine Goodman School of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University will keynote the event and highlight three steps an organization can take in involving volunteers. There is no cost to attend but space is limited and reservations are required by October 15.
