  • Saturday, Oct 8 Milwaukee Empty Bowls 13th Annual Event will be held at the MATC-Oak Creek Campus, 6665 S. Howell Ave. from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event brings together the community to enjoy the work of area artists, restaurants and entertainers at a fundraising event for Milwaukee area food programs.  The organization hopes to build on its record event in 2010, where 1800 people were served and $45,097.25 raised for local food programs. Guests have their choice from a collection of over 2,000 ceramic bowls handcrafted and donated by local artists, teachers and students. Soups prepared by more than 50 local chefs are served with bread and other refreshments. Some of the area’s top musicians entertain guests throughout the day. With the involvement and support of MATC, other businesses, and more than 300 volunteers, proceeds from this year’s event will go to: The Cathedral Center; Central City Churches Outreach Ministry; Friedens Community Ministries, Inc.; The Gathering of Southeast WI, Inc; Hope House of Milwaukee, Inc.; Repairers of the Breach; and St. Vincent de Paul Society of Milwaukee Community Meal & Services Empty Bowls requests a minimum donation of $20 per bowl ($10 for bowls made by children). There is a limit of four bowls per person. The bowls the guests take home serve as a reminder that there are always empty bowls in our community. Over the event’s 12-year history, more than 22,000 bowls have been taken home.
