Friday, April 29 The Wisconsin Hispanic Scholarship Foundation will host its annual All You Can Eat Taco Dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Vieau School, 823 S. 4th St. Funds raised will go toward scholarships for Latino students pursuing higher education. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children and can be purchased at http://store.mexicanfiesta.org/.

Saturday, April 30 Concordia University Wisconsin will team up with The Becky Werner Foundation for the annual 5K walk on CUW’s Mequon campus. The walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. The parents of Becky Werner, Bob and Dee Dee of Mukwonago started their foundation after Becky died unexpectedly of meningococcal meningitis on February 25, 2004, at the age of 20. Monday, May 7 Ten Chimneys and the Milwaukee Rep Present Chekhov: Two Hours, Four Plays at the Lunt-Fontanne Program Center at Ten Chimneys in Genesee Depot at 7 p.m. The evening play reading, featuring the talents of the Milwaukee Repertory Theater’s Artistic Intern Company, will include four hilariously funny plays that nevertheless show the careful attention to everyday life that fueled Chekhov’s major full-length works.  Pieces to be read include The Dangers of Tobacco, The Proposal, The Festivities, and The Bear. Cost to attend is $15 in advance, $20 at the door. For tickets call 262-968-4110.

Thursday, May 5 Pregnancy Support Connection will host it’s 2011 Annual Gala Event at the Marriott West Hotel, in Pewaukee starting at 5:30 p.m. The event is the biggest fundraiser for the organization. The Cinco de Mayo festivities will include specialty food, drinks, professional dancers and Mariachi bands. Cost to attend is $110 per person, or $800 for a table of eight. The Marriott West Hotel is located just northwest of Interstate 94 and Highway F. More details are available here.

Saturday, May 7 Waukesha County Museum, 101 W. Main St., will host a “Support our Troops” day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for its “Memories of World War II” exhibit and its “Hall of Heroes” feature display of photographs, artifacts and memorable items from the current and past military personnel. In conjunction with the day, The Midwest Vehicle Association will also display several military vehicles on display. Entertainment will be provided by Maureen Majeski’s Jumpin’ Jive club and activities for the kids will be provided throughout the day. The outdoor displays and activities are FREE to the public, and admission to the museum is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for students.

Thursday, May 12, the Center for Communication, Hearing & Deafness will host its eighth annual Gardens Luncheon at the Woman’s Club of Wisconsin from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. “Birds, Butterflies & Blossoms” will feature gardening expert Melinda Myers and emcee Tiffany Ogle, co-host of The Morning Blend.  All proceeds support children’s programs at the Center, to help children with hearing loss develop critical language and literacy skills. Stay after the luncheon for a special 30 minute Q & A with Melinda or to purchase an autographed copy of one of her books. Tickets are $65 each and tables seat 8.  Tickets can be purchased online at www.cchdwi.org or by calling 414-604-2200.  Interpreting and real-time captioning will be provided. 

Thursday, May 12 The Milwaukee Women’s Center, a Division of Community Advocates since 2007 will host its 23rd Annual Spring Fling Celebration of Hope at the Hyatt Regency Milwaukee from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. More than 500 business and community leaders will gather to support the organization’s mission. The event will feature cuisine courtesy of area restaurants, live entertainment, a program and a silent auction. Individual tickets are $100 per person and reserved tables of ten are $1,200 each. Saturday, May 14, The 3rd Annual Milwaukee Walk Now for Autism Speaks will be held at the Wisconsin State Fair Park beginning at 9 a.m. There is no entry fee for the event, which is meant to raise awareness and will feature live music and guest appearances from local ‘celebrities.’ Last year over 3,000 community members participated in the walk and raised more than $115,000. Thursday, May 19 BoardStar Inc. will host a leadership forum for nonprofit board directors and executives from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Marquette University’s Eckstein Hall. The event will focus on connecting nonprofit leaders and highlighting current trends and tools that will help them become more proficient and successful in serving their organizations. Participants will have the opportunity to mingle with the community of people that serve on boards as well as partake in break out discussions, ranging from guerilla marketing tactics to catching the top 10 red flags on a nonprofit financial statement. A networking reception will begin at 5:45 p.m., following the program. Interested parties can visit www.boardstar.org to learn more and to register. Discounted parking is available at Marquette University. The cost to attend is $50 for non-BoardStar members and $45 for BoardStar members.

Saturday, May 21 Stillwaters Cancer Support Services along with honorary chair Joe Bartolotta will host the first ever Hospital Food Fight at the Tommy G. Thompson Center, 640 S. 84th St., West Allis from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The ‘Iron-Chef-Type” competition will feature head chefs from area hospitals as they compete for the title of Best Hospital Food in Wisconsin. Restaurants, grocers and hospitals will provide food and beverage samples as refreshments. Ted Perry of Fox 6 News will emcee the event. Cost to attend is $35 before May 4.
