*Saturday, Jan. 24, the seventh annual “Strikes for Hope Charity Bowling Tournament” will take place at Sussex Bowl, located at N64 W24576 Main St. in Sussex. The event raises funds to benefit the Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center and its cancer research. Participants will be able to bowl at either 11 a.m. or 2:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to the team that collects the most money as well as to the event’s best bowlers. The event will also feature an auction. The fundraiser entry fee is $10, and each bowler must raise at least $25 in donations. For more information or to register, visit www.strikesforhope.com.

*Tuesday, Jan. 27, the Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee will hold a workshop featuring ways to lower stress. The workshop, titled “Reduce Stress Now: Mindfulness Meditation in the Workplace,” will help attendees learn how to take advantage of mindfulness meditation to curb their stress levels at work. The session will include guided meditation and information on mindfulness practices. The session will run from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee, located at 2819 W. Highland Blvd. in Milwaukee. The workshop is free for Nonprofit Center members and CDBG and costs $15 for nonmembers. For more information or to register, click here.

*Tuesday, Jan. 27, the Helen Bader Institute for Nonprofit Management at UW-Milwaukee will hold an information session on its two graduate education programs – a Master’s of Science in Nonprofit Management and Leadership and a Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management. The programs equip students with skills and knowledge needed for nonprofit accounting, board governance, fund development, marketing, human resources and more. The information session will cover program curriculums, admissions requirements, financial aid and more. The session will run from 6 to 7 p.m. on UWM’s campus at 3230 E. *Thursday, Jan. 29, BizTimes Media will hold the 2015 Northern Trust Economic Trends Breakfast to give business leaders insight on expectations for business in the year ahead. The event, in its 14th year, will feature a macro-economic outlook by Michael Knetter, Ph.D., of the University of Wisconsin Foundation as well as industry outlooks by Tina Chang of SysLogic Inc., Tom Still of the Wisconsin Technology Council, Keith Rozolis of ABC Supply Co. Inc., and Todd Teske of Briggs & Stratton Corp. The event will also include breakout sessions for business leaders. The breakfast event will run from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Italian Conference Center, located at 631 E. Chicago St. in Milwaukee. Cost is $60 for individuals and $600 for a corporate table of 10. *Thursday, Jan. 29, the City of Milwaukee will celebrate its 169th birthday during a party presented by the Milwaukee Press Club. The theme for this year’s party is “Milwaukee Made: Products, people and places that ‘make’ Milwaukee great.” In line with the theme, the press club is holding a contest calling for nominations in three categories: Who, what and which places define Milwaukee? Honorees will be recognized at the birthday celebration. The party will also include gourmet food stations by Bartolotta’s Catering, complimentary beer, coffee and cake, and a cash bar. The party will run from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Grain Exchange, located at 225 E. Michigan St., Suite 5, in Milwaukee. Cost is $35, and attendees must register by Friday, Jan. 23. *Saturday, Jan. 31, “Laugh It Up Milwaukee 2015” will feature a performance by famed comedian, producer and author Howie Mandel. The star is currently producing the TBS series “Deal With It” and also acts as a judge on NBC”s “America’s Got Talent” series. “Laugh It Up Milwaukee,” a fundraiser in its fourth year, highlights the impact organizations make when they work together. Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center and Hunger Task Force. Mandel’s performance is scheduled for 8 p.m. at the Riverside Theater, 116 W. Wisconsin Ave. in downtown Milwaukee. Tickets run from $45 to $90.
