Newaukee to offer free beverages at Urban Island Beach Party

Flocks of inflatable flamingos are hiding out in the streets of downtown Milwaukee this week, offering those who find them an opportunity to get a free beverage at the Urban Island Beach Party on Friday, Aug. 2.

Newaukee scattered more than 200 flamingos throughout the city on Monday to ramp up excitement for the beach party, which caps off Downtown Employee Appreciation Week.

The public celebration, organized by Milwaukee Downtown Business Improvement District #21, will run from Monday, July 29, through Friday, Aug. 2, with a smorgasbord of office challenge games, friendly sports competitions, music events, social get-togethers and giveaways.

The week acts as a thank you to downtown employers and employees who contribute to Milwaukee’s community development and sustainability.

Newaukee’s beach party will be held at Lakeshore State Park, 500 N. Harbor Dr., from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. with live music, a limbo contest, interactive art experiences, free kayaking and paddle boarding and more. Individuals who find a flamingo this week will be able to redeem their flamingo for a free beverage at the event.
