The poke trend is headed for Bay View.

A new business, listed as Fuji Poke Inc., recently leased a 1,800-square-foot retail space at Bay View Commons mixed-use development, located at 2121 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., according to a news release from Milwaukee-based Founders 3  Real Estate Services.

The space previously housed a Subway restaurant that recently closed.

Matthew Beadle, a broker at Founders 3, represented Fuji Poke in the agreement. Its owners could not be immediately reached for comment.

Fuji Poke joins a handful of poke concepts that have opened throughout Milwaukee in the past two years.

Milwaukee-based FreshFin Poke was the first poke restaurant to open in the area in January 2017, and has since expanded its East Side location to Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward and to The Corners of Brookfield.

Other poke restaurants that have opened in the area include Fusion Poke on the East Side, Aloha Poke in the Third Ward, and R&R Poke in Wauwatosa. Most recently, Irvine, Calif.-based Pokeworks opened its first Wisconsin location in Brookfield.

Poke, which originates from Hawaii, is diced raw fish, usually tuna or octopus, that can be served on its own or as a bowl-style dish with other ingredients.
