The Medical College of Wisconsin is partnering with the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee’s App Brewery to conceptualize and bring to fruition new, innovative apps intended to enhance and highlight medical research and clinical care while providing educational opportunities to students.

Imagine an app that could track concussion symptoms, help recruit participants for clinical trials, or advance pain management.

Those are just a few of the nine new apps being pitched at the second Mobile App Challenge today in the auditorium on the MCW campus. The finalists were selected from an initial pool of 52 entrants.

During the event, each finalist team will have a brief opportunity to present their idea and take a few questions from judges.  After the proposals have been reviewed, a team of judges will select the winning proposals.

Students at the UWM App Brewery will develop the apps in collaboration with the teams behind the creative ideas.

“The incorporation of mobile devices into professional practice offers great opportunity for healthcare and research. The creativity and innovation demonstrated in these proposals from our students, faculty and staff will enhance the Medical College of Wisconsin. We look forward to continued collaboration with UWM and the App Brewery,” said Dr. Joseph Kerschner, executive vice president of MCW and dean of the medical school.

“Our first collaboration with the Medical College of Wisconsin was very successful, producing apps that enhance medical care in complicated situations. We are very excited to be working with researchers, doctors and staff at the Medical College again,” App Brewery project manager Dustin Hahn said. “This partnership is another example of UWM’s commitment to working with and learning from the community. It demonstrates our commitment to making Milwaukee stronger and educating career-ready graduates in computer science and design.”

For this project, the App Brewery will work out of its satellite location located in UWM’s new Innovation Campus on Watertown Plank Road.
