Milwaukee lands 2013 convention nation’s governors

Organizations:

The National Governors Association has chosen Milwaukee to host the organization’s 2013 annual meeting, Aug. 2-4. Wisconsin previously hosted the National Governors Association in 1914 and 1998.
“We’re excited that Wisconsin has been selected to host the nation’s governors in 2013,” Gov. Scott Walker said in a prepared statement. “NGA meetings offer governors the opportunity to sit together and focus on solutions and ideas that improve state government and strengthen the federal-state partnership. I am honored that my fellow governors have selected us as their host and am thrilled for the opportunity to showcase the world-class city of Milwaukee and all that this wonderful state has to offer. We’re also grateful for Visit Milwaukee partnering with the state to help bring NGA here.”
Paul Upchurch, president and CEO of Visit Milwaukee, also praised the decision: "When you think of all the wonderful cities and destinations in the United States, it is quite an honor that we in Milwaukee were chosen to host this prestigious event.”
The governor’s office said NGA’s nine-governor executive committee selected Milwaukee for its hotel and meeting facilities, as well as the city’s overall appeal.
According to Walker’s calendars, he had a series of meetings this summer with members of the executive committee.
