Mergers and acquisitions continued their growth in October, according to the most recent Global M&A Monthly issued by Milwaukee-based Robert W. Baird & Co.

The October total of U.S.-based transactions was 828, a 22.7 percent increase from the total of October, 2009. Dollar volume increased by more than 62 percent, to $66.2 billion. Year to date, total transactions have increased more than 45 percent, and dollar volume has risen 29 percent. The middle market has continued to post better performance than the total U.S. market – deal volume rose 48.8 percent in October from one year earlier. The 427 announced deals from last month were the highest middle market monthly total since 1997, the Baird report says.

Dollar volume in the middle market followed a similar pattern, rising 47.6 percent to $32.5 billion.
