Schwaab Inc. acquires Carolina firm
Milwaukee-based Schwaab Inc. has acquired Carolina Marking Devices of Charlotte, N.C.
Schwaab is a family owned and run company dating back four generations to 1881 and one of the largest manufacturers of hand stamps, name badges/nameplates, signage and business cards in the world.
Carolina Marking Devices has been the dominant supplier of the same products in the Southeast.  Sol Shapiro founded the company in 1957 and after his passing in 1996, his wife Ada, took over all responsibilities. Ada recently decided to retire and look for a company that would carry on its tradition.
Schwaab will maintain the sales and marketing for Carolina Marking in Charlotte and will move manufacturing primarily to a production facility in Atlanta, Ga., and to a lesser extent its headquarters in Milwaukee at 11415 W. Burleigh St., according to Douglas Lane, president of Schwaab.
Financial terms and conditions of the sale were not disclosed.
The acquisition is Schwaab’s ninth in the past 10 years.
