Meijer buys Supervalu distribution center in Pleasant Prairie

Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Meijer Inc., which plans to build several big-box stores in southeastern Wisconsin, has acquired the Supervalu Midwest Distribution Facility in Pleasant Prairie, village officials announced today.

The facility will serve the stores that Meijer plans to build in southeastern Wisconsin and could also be used to serve its stores in northeastern Illinois.
The 580,000-square-foot facility is located on the east side of Highway 31 between state Highways 50 and 165. Meijer plans to make improvements to the facility, according to village officials.
Meijer has more than 200 stores, which include general merchandise and grocery items, in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky.
The company has submitted plans to build stores in Franklin, Sussex, Grafton and Wauwatosa. Some real estate industry insiders expect the company to build several additional stores in the area.
