Learn more about:

Milwaukee-based Medical Companion, LLC., a healthcare technology company, has announced that Sue Ela, former executive vice president and chief operating officer of Aurora Health Care, has been named as its chief executive officer.

“Medical Companion was born out of my personal experiences when my mother was in the hospital and as a physician, which is a unique position that not many in the healthcare technology industry share,” said Dr. Joe Kohli, who founded the company in 2010 and is also a practicing orthopedic surgeon with Aurora Health Care. “In addition to being a great communicator and leader, Sue’s vast experience in healthcare, as well as her administrative knowledge made her our number one candidate to take Medical Companion to the next level.”

“My entire career I have been a healthcare advocate focused on quality patient care,” said Ela. “It is exciting to partner with a visionary company that is working to revolutionize the way patients and doctors communicate. I welcome the opportunity to step outside of my comfort zone and look forward to working with the dedicated Medical Companion team to innovate patient care for the future.”

Medical Companion’s suite of products includes “surgicalCompanion,” which provides real-time communication between surgeons and their patients, as well as their families before, during and after a surgical procedure. Currently in use in five Milwaukee-area hospitals, the company said it plans to aggressively expand the use of surgicalCompanion regionally starting in the next few weeks.
