Massive fire burns food processing plant in Burlington

Firefighters battled an eight-alarm fire at the Echo Lake Foods plant at 33102 S Honey Lake Road in Burlington Wednesday and Thursday.

The Burlington Fire Department responded to a 6:05 p.m. report of a fire at the plant. The plant was successfully evacuated, and there were no injuries reported for any employees or firefighters.

The response to the fire was impeded by the frigid air and high winds.

The Burlington Police Department evacuated 10 nearby homes and one apartment complex. Echo Lake manufactures bulk egg products for commercial use and employs approximately 300 people at the 70,000-square-foot plant.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. An estimate of the damages is not yet available. See more in a report by WISN-TV Channel 12, a media partner of BizTimes Milwaukee.
