MADISON – Lettuce in space: A milestone for NASA and for Madison’s Orbitec

Salad days are here for astronauts aboard the International Space Station.

Or, as one NASA Twitter account put it, “That’s one small bite for a man, one giant leaf for mankind.”

Astronauts had their first taste Monday of “home-grown” lettuce from plants they grew in space, in greenhouse units produced by Orbitec, a Madison company.
