When a crisis unfolds. Lisa Hass-Peters is there, making sure every last detail is accounted for.

Hass-Peters is a nurse and the emergency preparedness coordinator for Froedtert Hospital, the region’s adult Level 1 Trauma Center. She works tirelessly with other members of the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center campus to coordinate and prepare planned responses to potential high-risk situations.

“Her enthusiasm for preparation disaster response in an effort to save lives is contagious,” a colleague once said.

Hass-Peters regularly leads groups of hospital employees to the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Center for Domestic Preparedness to ensure others are trained, as well.

The preparation paid off recently, when Hass-Peters was deployed to support Hurricane Irma disaster relief efforts as a member of the WIsconsin-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team. Once there, Hass-Peters and other medical, logistical and administrative personnel worked 12-hour shifts for 11 consecutive days to augment support from local resources.

Outside of her work in emergency preparedness and disaster recovery, Hass-Peters is a hero and an advocate for organ donation. She is a registered bone marrow donor, and was also recently matched with an anonymous patient in need of an allogeneic stem cell transplant.

“My husband is the recipient of a liver transplant, times two,” Hass-Peters said. “I’ve been waiting for 20 years to give back and pay it forward. I’m grateful for the opportunity to donate and encourage everyone to please consider donating as well.”
