Last call to get answers about Obamacare

Today is the final day BizTimes Media is accepting registrations from employers and human resource managers throughout southeastern Wisconsin to attend the “Understanding Health Care Reform” conference, which will take place on the morning of Friday, Sept. 13, at the new Milwaukee Marriott Downtown.

Several components of the new law, including enrollment in the health insurance exchanges, will go into effect Oct. 1.

The event will begin with a robust panel discussion featuring experts who will share updates about the Affordable Care Act and answer questions. The experts on the panel will include:

* Mike Derdzinski, senior vice president of Johnson Insurance Services LLC in Racine. Derdzinski will share insights about how the insurance exchanges will work and employers can best navigate the new systems of Obamacare.
* Kelly Kuglitsch, senior counsel of the Employee Benefits Practice Team at Davis & Kuelthau S.C. in Milwaukee. Kuglitsch works with employers to ensure compliant design and administration of employee benefit plans.
* Terri Lillesand, CPA and shareholder of Schenck SC in Sheboygan. Lillesand is advising employers about how to comply with Obamacare.
* Jeff Marquardt, vice president of regional sales at Arise Health Plan in Green Bay. Marquardt will shed light on how benefit plans will be constructed to maximize the impact of coverage.
* Joanne Alig, senior vice president of policy and research at the Wisconsin Hospital Association in Madison. Alig will explain how health care providers are changing to comply with Obamacare.

The panel discussion will be moderated by BizTimes executive editor Steve Jagler, who won a national journalism award earlier this year for his reporting on the impact of the Affordable Care Act.

Breakout sessions will follow the panel discussion, allowing employers to ask specific questions about Obamacare.

A breakout session for employers with less than 50 employees will be led by: Derdzinski; Kuglitsch; Lillesand; and Sean Van Ess, manager of marketing and product development at Arise Health Plan.

A breakout session for larger employers with more than 50 employees will be led by Marquardt; Scott Austin, president of employee benefits and life practices at Johnson Insurance; Tracey Klein, equity shareholder and co-chair of the health care department at Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren, s.c.; and Rebecca Smith, CPA and manager at Schenck.
