What does your daily or weekly fitness regime consist of? I primarily runn 5-6 days per week and 6 to 8 miles per day.

Other than the obvious health benefits, how has being fit improved your life? I first began the process of regaining my fitness early in 2006. Since that time I have lost over 80 lbs and brought all of my ‘numbers’ back to a healthy level. Being fit has improved nearly every aspect of my life by helping to advance my career, increasing the activities that I can engage in with my children and wife and affording me the opportunity to impact the healthy decisions of friends and coworkers.

How does personal fitness affect your work life? As an executive in the healthcare industry engaged in discussions and debates on industry policy and reforms, personal fitness has a profound impact on my personal credibility as I work to drive awareness around the role that choice, personal accountability and wellness play in the development of a truly sustainable healthcare system for our country.

How does fitness or wellness affect your overall organization? Wellness is a 365 day a year focus for our organization as we work to drive awareness to our nearly 40,000 associates across the country.

What advice do you have for other executives interested in starting either a personal fitness plan or corporate wellness initiative? Adopting new health behaviors around activity, nutrition or smoking can be challenging and intimidating. Your employees won’t have to go it alone if you lead them through it in a compassionate, supportive and inclusive way.Take control of your own health and wellbeing and use your personal story/commitment to drive awareness and particpation throughout all levels of your organization.
