Joy Global announces Oak Creek distribution center plans

Milwaukee-based Joy Global Inc., a manufacturer of mining equipment and the parent company of P&H Mining Equipment Inc., has announced its plans to establish a warehouse and distribution center operation in a 300,000-square-foot building in Oak Creek.

The facility, located at 10001 S. Howell Ave. will be Joy Global’s largest distribution center in the world. It will have 75 to 100 employees.

It will be operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is expected to be up and running in July.

The facility will be used to provide parts and components to mining customers and Joy Global’s service centers globally. It is one of many distribution centers the company has located around the world to provide direct service and parts support to customers.

“Joy Global is all about solving mining’s toughest challenges through world-class products and direct service,” said Paul Heffernan, director of global warehousing, logistics and trade for Joy Global. “The Milwaukee – Oak Creek Distribution Center includes the latest facility design, warehouse technology and our Joy Operational Excellence Process to provide our mining customers with the right parts at the right time to maximize their production. We have worked with our local Union, United Steel Workers Local 1114 to provide our employees with a safe and efficient place to work, and to serve our external and internal customers.”

Joy Global said that its decision to invest in the Milwaukee area and Oak Creek was the result of an “extensive review by the company.”

“The Oak Creek location near the airport and interstate highway offers great access to transportation networks and allows Joy Global to provide best-in-class direct service to its customers,” the company said in a statement.

“I see this as another indication of the strength of the Oak Creek economy and a great opportunity to bring in world class manufacturers to re-purpose existing industrial space,” said Oak Creek Mayor Steve Scaffidi. “Given the strength of Joy Global and their long standing commitment to the Milwaukee area, I see them as a great community partner for Oak Creek.”
