Milwaukee County Board Chairwoman Marina Dimitrijevic and Supervisor Gerry Broderick, chair of Parks, Energy and Environment Committee of the board, have named former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Janine Geske as the mediator for negotiations between the Milwaukee Art Museum and the Milwaukee County War Memorial.

Currently a distinguished professor of law at Marquette University Law School and director of the Law School’s Restorative Justice Initiative, Geske also is a Fellow of the American College of Civil Trial Mediators, a member of the Association for Conflict Resolution and a member of the Alternative Dispute Resolution sections of the American and Wisconsin Bar Associations.

“We make this appointment in the spirit of moving forward and in the best interest of Milwaukee County stakeholders,” Dimitrijevic said. “As supporters of the Milwaukee Art Museum and War Memorial Center, we want nothing more than to see these institutions thrive.”

The Milwaukee County Board requested that negotiations begin after the Milwaukee Art Museum agreed to pay 60 percent of a $25 million plan for renovation and improvements and committed to the full management of the structure.

Milwaukee County has agreed to pay $10 million toward the project.

“It’s important to thank all of the leadership of the Milwaukee Art Museum and the War Memorial Center,” said Broderick. “The passion and vision they’ve lent to these two iconic institutions are valued by Milwaukee County residents and tourists alike.”
