The name Jannsen + Company is well known in the Waukesha area, partly because the family-owned company has been around since 1975, and partly because of the company’s commitment and support for the local community.
Nearly 40 years ago, Martin Jannsen founded Jannsen + Company as a CPA services firm. Terrill Jannsen, now president, took over the firm from his father in 1998. Over the years, the company has added additional services including accounting services, information technology, wealth management, human resources, payroll, and services for professional athletes as clients dictated the need.
“More than anything, our growth is driven by our longevity as a firm and the relationships we’ve been able to form with our clients,” Terrill Jannsen said. “We’ve had clients where we’ve been able to maintain the relationship through multi-generation situations, which is a testament to the clients we work with and the team that we have here.”
According to Jannsen, growth throughout the company has evolved organically through client referrals and community relationships fostered by long-term staff members at the company.
“We’ve always tried to hire ‘right’ instead of just hiring,” Jannsen said. “We hire people we know are going to want to be with us long term.”
Some clients have worked with the same Jannsen employees since they were interns with the firm.
“We value those kind of relationships because if a problem arises with an account or a service we can deal with them quickly and efficiently without there being too much back-and-forth that could risk us the account,” Jannsen said.
Jannsen employees receive a competitive benefits package and additional time off in the summer months. The office regularly holds cookouts and encourages regular community involvement in events and organizations people feel passionate about.
While acquisition has not been on the company’s radar the past 20 years, Jannsen does expect some opportunities in that arena to arise in the next few years.
