Internship and apprenticeship panel added to Get Smarter conference

A second panel has been added to the fifth annual BizTimes Get Smarter Conference. This panel will dig deeper into discussion about internships and apprenticeships.

The BizTimes Get Smarter Conference will focus on how companies can use apprenticeships, internships and mentorships to develop their future workforce and become more productive.

The event will take place Thursday, Oct. 17, from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m., at the Potawatomi Bingo Casino. The conference is presented with the premise that a smarter Milwaukee is a better Milwaukee, with smarter employees and more profitable companies.

The first session of panelists will be held from 8-9:15 a.m. and the second panel discussion will be held from 9:15-10:30 a.m.

The second panelist participants will be:

Sara Reed– First VP, Talent Development Manager – Robert W.Baird & Co. Inc.
Wade Krogwold – Campus and Community Recruiting Manager – Direct Supply
Jenna Newhouse, UWM Lubar School of Business, senior Account Manager Intern, Direct Supply
Ilya V. Avdeev, Ph.D. – Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering. Founder, UWM Student Startup Challenge (SSC) -Director, Advanced Manufacturing and Design Laboratory (AMDL) University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
Stephanie Borowski – President, GPS Education Partners
Ken Mahuta – Owner, Mahuta Tool Corp.

Borowski will participate after returning from a trip to Germany where she will be touring manufacturing facilities and meeting with employers there to learn about their best practices in apprenticeships.

As previously announced, the panelists for the first session of the conference will be:

Megan Anderson, assistant director of the internship program at Alverno College and president of the Milwaukee Area College Internship Consortium (MACIC).
Nicole Langley, market vice president of Wisconsin and northern Illinois for ManpowerGroup.
Reggie Newson, secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.
Sister Joel Read, former president of Alverno College and a renowned mentor.
Will Ruch, president and chief executive officer of Versant.
Peter Holbrook, Ph.D., dean of the Cardinal Stritch University College of Business and Management.
