International roller derby championship coming to Milwaukee

Milwaukee will welcome an international cadre of competitive skaters this weekend as the city’s Brewcity Bruisers roller derby league hosts the International Women’s Flat Track Derby Association Championships.

 

The championships will feature “bouts” of roller derby among the top 12 teams in the world on Friday, Nov. 8, through Sunday, Nov. 10, with the final two teams competing for the highest honors in the sport, the Hydra Trophy.

Matches will start at 2 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday, and the final match will take place at 6 p.m. on Sunday. All matches will run at Milwaukee’s U.S. Cellular Arena, located at 400 W. Kilbourn Ave. After parties will follow matches each night at Turner Hall Ballroom, located at 1032 N. 4th St. in Milwaukee

Milwaukee’s own roller derby league, the Brewcity Bruisers, encompasses four home teams: the Crazy 8’s, Maiden Milwaukee, the Rushin’ Rollettes, and Shevil Knevils.
