Historic Third Ward named in America’s Top ArtPlaces

Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward has been named one of America’s Top 12 ArtPlaces 2013 by ArtPlace, an initiative comprised of national and regional organizations, federal agencies and banks dedicated to the funding and development of art.

ArtPlace supports arts organizations and projects through both advocacy efforts and grants and loans.

America’s Top ArtPlaces highlight neighborhoods where the arts have a strong influence and where art blends with businesses, stores, restaurants and a walkable lifestyle.

Milwaukee was the only designated city in the Midwest.

“This designation is a huge honor for the city and will continue to help to bring the arts to the forefront of American culture,” said Mayor Tom Barrett.

Barrett accepted the honor from Carol Coletta, director of ArtPlace, during a press conference at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design Jan. 14.

ArtPlace has distributed 80 grants totaling $26.9 million to 76 organizations throughout the United States.
