Being a good leader is different than simply being a boss, according to Gale Pence, founder and chief executive officer of Germantown-based Global Precision Industries Inc.
Pence credits the company’s success to his approach to leadership and his ability to develop teams of people who want to grow with the company.
“I had spent most of my career in the tool and die industry,” Pence said. “Early on, I started to identify the emerging market internationally. I started looking for international partners to help add value to what we were doing.”
After meeting some resistance at his existing firm, he started his own company with the same intent.
The company, founded in 2003, provides high-precision engineering and sourcing opportunities for new and existing products and does business on a global scale. Global Precision is on track to earn $4 million in revenue this year.
“The industry was changing rapidly,” said Ron Pence, chief marketing officer and Gale’s brother. “Gale had the foresight and the persistence to recognize the opportunities available with those changes.”
The company has an office in Ningbo, China, to service growth in the business and act as an in-country platform for U.S. opportunities.
