First phase of Signicast expansion nearly complete

Organizations:

Hartford-based Signicast will complete the first phase of its 500,000-square-foot expansion in the first quarter.

The company, which makes commercial investment castings, purchased 52 acres north of its existing site in May 2011 and has already invested $50 million toward its $150 million, 15-year, five-phase expansion plan, which it expects will create 500 jobs.
The first phase, Module 7, includes two new production facilities and a skywalk connecting them to the legacy sites, totaling 110,890 square feet.

Signicast has five connected legacy facilities that total 435,000 square feet on a 38-acre site at 1800 Innovation Way in Hartford. It also has a 98,000-square-foot building in Brown Deer.

Since 2012, Signicast has hired more than 200 new employees. The company is also currently hiring 100 people for manufacturing, engineering, IT/automation, maintenance and tooling positions. It now has more than 830 employees.

The company’s growth is driven by its continuous growth philosophy and dedication to producing quality products within the time constraints of its more than 500 customers, said Todd McDonald, president and chief executive officer.

Gov. Scott Walker plans to visit the company’s new facility on Monday, Feb. 3, as part of his “Brown Bag” tour.

“We’re looking forward to showcasing Signicast during Gov. Walker’s visit,” McDonald said. “We have something special happening here with our latest expansion and recent growth. At the same time, we’re facing fierce competition from low-cost foreign competitors. It’s important for our government to understand how (its) actions can make us less competitive and ultimately inhibit our growth.

“Any help we can get from the government to ease the burden of taxes and regulations can make us more competitive worldwide.”
