Kurt Schmidt has been named chief financial officer at Potawatomi Bingo Casino.

Schmidt will oversee all financial activities on the casino’s property, ensuring that all applicable laws, rules, regulations, controls and policies are enforced. He will also monitor operating results, profitability and performance of the casino.

Schmidt, a Certified Public Accountant with a MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, has more than 30 years of experience in a variety of financial oversight roles, including his recent position as CFO with the Navajo Nation Gaming Enterprise, where he helped to build and manage six new casino properties. 

Peter Eggers has been named assistant controller at Bank Mutual. He is based at Bank Mutual corporate headquarters located at 4949 W. Brown Deer Rd.

Eggers has 23 years of experience in bank accounting. He earned his degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee.

Michael Kuhn, CPA and shareholder at Vrakas/Blum, S.C. has been named a member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Entrepreneurship Advisory Board.

The board was formed following the recent approval of UW-Whitewater’s bachelor of business administration degree in entrepreneurship by the UW System Board of Regents. The new major has drawn support from regional business and community leaders and will enhance campus collaboration with local and regional agencies and organizations.

“All of us on the advisory board are excited about the new entrepreneurship major at UW-Whitewater, as well as the opportunity to help prepare future entrepreneurs of southeastern Wisconsin,” said Kuhn. “I look forward to seeing the program’s growth in the years to come.”

Michael P. Dow, CPA, CLU, ChFC, of Next Level Planning and Wealth Management, an office of MetLife, has been appointed to the National Board of Directors of the Society of Financial Service Professionals (FSP).  Mr. Dow has been a member of the Milwaukee Chapter since 1987.

The Society of FSP is a national network of credentialed professionals working in diverse financial disciplines.  Its mission is to promote professionalism among its members by delivering top-quality continuing education programming, and establishing and rewarding the highest standards of ethical conduct by cultivating mutually beneficial relationships among credentialed financial service professionals.

 

James A. Holmes, CPA, managing shareholder and president of Vrakas/Blum, S.C. has been named a board member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Charitable Gift Planning Advisory Council.

“As a graduate of UW-Whitewater, I am proud and honored to serve on the board of the Charitable Gift Planning Advisory Council,” said Holmes. “I am excited about my term as a board member and committed to helping maximize the value of donations made to this first-class institution.”

Holmes, a 1984 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, began his accounting career at Vrakas/Blum in 1985. As managing shareholder and president, he is responsible for key strategic management and decision-making activities for the firm. Holmes primarily focuses on providing strategic planning services to high net worth individuals and business owners.
