Downer Avenue store to expand

Organizations:

Olive Fine Organic Living, located at 2624 N. Downer Ave. in Milwaukee’s East Side neighborhood, is expanding adding 700 square feet to its existing 1,500 square feet of space.

Olive sells organic clothing, Earth-friendly home goods and natural personal care products. The store says it is “committed to supporting quality and ethical manufacturing process” and only carries products made by companies with fair trade and humane labor practices.

The additional space will provide room for the store to expand its product line adding organic mattresses; sustainably manufactured furniture, home goods and green building supplies; and an expanded line of infant products.

Store owner Michael Katarincic said the store is “offering different product lines to reach a more diverse customer base, on a more consistent basis.”

The store already sells baby apparel, but will now carry more essential daily use items such as baby carriers, wraps, diapers and changing pads.

Olive is partnering with The Green Design Center in Waukesha to offer some eco-friendly building supplies.

“With no other high-end furniture galleries in the neighborhood and no one else offering ‘green’ building supplies throughout the city,” Olive will quickly become a destination for local homeowners looking to retro-fit their homes with more eco-friendly materials,” Katarincic said.

Olive is the only store in the area offering organic mattresses, said Olive general manager David Neubert. Some say the organic mattresses provide health advantage over traditional mattresses.

“We’ve had a lot of interest in the mattresses,” Neubert said. “We get calls every day about them.”

Previously located in Mequon, the store moved to Downer Avenue about and a year and a half ago.
