Doheny takes over at Joy Global

Edward Doheny II has been elected president and chief executive officer of Milwaukee-based mining equipment manufacturer Joy Global Inc., following a previously announced succession plan.

Michael Sutherlin resigned from the president and CEO roles and from the board of directors yesterday and will retire on February 1. He joined Joy Global in 2003 and became CEO in 2007.

“Mike led our business through significant periods of growth and profitability,” said John Nils Hanson, chairman. “Mike’s leadership also attracted, retained and developed strong senior executives such as Ted and Randy, whose industry knowledge and track record gave the board great comfort in planning for an orderly leadership transition process.”

Doheny was elected this month to the board of directors. He previously served as executive vice president of the company and president and chief operating officer of the underground equipment segment.

As part of the leadership transition, Randal Baker has been named to a new companywide position, COO. Baker, who previously served as president and COO of the surface mining division, will manage the surface mining equipment and underground mining equipment businesses.

“Ted is committed to building the future direction of Joy Global around the key strategies that have made Joy Global a leading performer in the industry, including product leadership, direct service and enhanced customer partnerships,” Hanson said. “Randy will lead the implementation of our strategy across all our product lines and regions.”
