Dean Health Plan expands into Waukesha County with ProHealth

Madison-based Dean Health Plan and Waukesha-based ProHealth Care have announced a new agreement that will expand Dean’s insurance network to include all ProHealth physicians, facilities and services.

Dean Health Plan has 400,000 members in 20 counties, and this new relationship with ProHealth Care marks Dean’s first comprehensive agreement in Waukesha County. The new agreement was effective Dec. 1.

Dean Health Plan is one of five insurers in Waukesha County selling individual coverage on the new health insurance marketplace.

“We are excited to join the Dean Health Plan network,” said Susan Edwards, chief executive officer of ProHealth Care. “Families purchasing Dean insurance through an employer, an agent or the new health insurance marketplace will now have in-network access to our complete continuum of care, including Waukesha County’s largest group of primary care physicians.”

ProHealth Care’s 90 primary care physicians practice at 16 clinics in Waukesha County and Jefferson County. The Dean agreement also includes the many specialty physicians from ProHealth’s medical group as well as those in independent practices that are part of ProHealth Solutions, ProHealth’s accountable care organization.

The agreement also adds to the Dean network all of ProHealth’s hospitals: Waukesha Memorial Hospital, Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital and the Rehabilitation Hospital of Wisconsin.

Those seeking to access ProHealth services through a Dean insurance plan on the new health insurance marketplace will “find attractive options available,” the press release announcing the agreement said.

“Dean Health Plan’s 30-year history of aligning the interests of doctors, hospitals and insurance providers is a natural fit with ProHealth’s patient-centered approach to care,” said Lon Sprecher, chief executive officer of Dean Health Plan. “The addition to the Dean Health Plan network of all of ProHealth’s physicians plus Waukesha Memorial and other facilities ensures that we are offering unparalleled access to care at affordable prices to individuals and families in Waukesha County.”
