Certified financial planner David Spano, the founder and president of Brookfield-based Annex Wealth Management, says he saw opportunity during The Great Recession.

While leading his company through the downturn, Spano added employees while many other firms were cutting back.

“I have always believed that human capital is the best investment, and I plan to continue adding executives to our team,” he said.

Spano also increased advertising during the recession, when a lot of other companies were cutting their marketing budgets.

Despite the severity of the downturn, Annex Wealth Management added more clients and increased its assets under supervision, largely because of Spano’s leadership said Mark Beck, director of wealth management services at Annex.

“Dave has exhibited the ability to lead and motivate during the most difficult environment for our industry,” Beck said. “David has maintained his vision of developing a premiere, client-focuses wealth management firm, and has continued to invest in branding, marketing and operations of the business.”

“This (recession) has been an opportunity for independent financial planners to expand their knowledge base,” Spano said.

Spano said the company is in the midst of a merger and acquisition. He is also evaluating office expansions in Green Bay, Madison and downtown Milwaukee.

Founded by Spano in 2000, Annex Wealth Management LLC is an independent firm that provides clients with unbiased financial advice for financial planning.

“I enjoy helping clients and guide them with unbiased advice, to provide assurance and to approach retirement,” said Spano.
